Same As The Name Brand
I’ve found that many Equate brand products are almost indistinguishable from their more expensive brand name counterparts. This is definitely true for their Allergy Relief Capsules. These perform exactly as the brand name capsules do. They go to work in under an hour to relieve my allergies.I use these mostly when my allergies are quite severe. I can’t use them daily since they make me quite sleepy and tend to over dry me.These are super effective and stop my runny nose and itchy, watery eyes. When I need to take them I usually take them right before bed or a bit before, so when they make me sleepy it’s okay since I’m going to bed anyway. I also wake up refreshed and allergy free.If I take more than a dose or two of these it really dries out my eyes and throat to desert like conditions so I try to only take these when I really, really need them. They are more of an occasional thing and not really for controlling long term allergies.Overall, these are definitely comparable to the brand name version and I definitely recommend them.
How Should Benadryl Be Taken
A typical dose of Benadryl is 25-50 mg every 4-6 hours. Benadryl may interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors , other over-the-counter cough, cold, allergy, or insomnia medications, anxiety or sleep medicines, antidepressants, or any other medications that make you feel drowsy, sleepy, or relaxed. Tell your doctor all medications and supplements you use. Benadryl has not been adequately evaluated in pregnant women. Benadryl is secreted in breast milk. Because of the risk of stimulation and seizures in infants, especially newborns and premature infants, antihistamines should not be used by nursing mothers.
But Its Probably Not Doing You Any Favors In The Long Run
Though they may help you fall asleep faster and get more sleep, antihistamines wont necessarily lead to better quality sleep, which is whats most important, Elliott said.
This is because antihistamine also blocks acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter in your brain that plays a role in REM sleep . And in the process, this increases your phases of light sleep at the expense of deeper sleep, leading to greater likelihood of next-day sedation.
The sedation is usually from the medicine still being in the body after waking, but some of the fatigue is from the brain not going through its normal stages of sleep during the night, Dimitriu said.
Thanks to the next-day hangover effect, other symptoms you might experience by day include dry mouth, dizziness, poor focus and forgetfulness. You may also develop a tolerance to the sedative effects pretty quickly, according to the Mayo Clinic, so the longer you take the medication, the less likely they are to help you conk out.

The Medication Does Make You Sleepy
Antihistamine is the secret ingredient in numerous OTC products commonly used for insomnia, including Benadryl, said Alex Dimitriu, a California-based dual board-certified psychiatrist and sleep medicine specialist. It works by blocking histamine, a chemical produced by the central nervous system that not only produces allergy symptoms, but plays a role in wakefulness .
Antihistamines may be helpful in short-term situations , but its important to stress that this isnt the medications intended use, said Martin Reed, a certified clinical sleep health expert and founder of Insomnia Coach. And switching to an OTC sleep drug that happens to contain antihistamine doesnt mean youre off the hook, either. Theres still an overall lack of data on the safety and efficacy of using antihistamines to help you sleep, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Why Is This Medication Prescribed
Loratadine is used to temporarily relieve the symptoms of hay fever and other allergies. These symptoms include sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes, nose, or throat. Loratadine is also used to treat itching and redness caused by hives. However, loratadine does not prevent hives or other allergic skin reactions. Loratadine is in a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.
Loratadine is also available in combination with pseudoephedrine . This monograph only includes information about the use of loratadine alone. If you are taking the loratadine and pseudoephedrine combination product, read the information on the package label or ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Effective As And Cheaper Than Benadryl
This is Walmart’s version of Benadryl. I find it as effective as the brand name, at a much lower cost. The pills are a very bright pink color, which is slightly offputting. As with the name brand version, the Equate brand side effects include drowsiness. Sometimes this can be severe, especially if you take more than one tablet. I find that it also is dehydrating, so it’s best taken with a lot of water.EffectivenessThis product is extremely effective against allergic responses to things ranging from pollen, mold and dust to bee stings and mosquito bites. Which Antihistamine Is Best
The best antihistamine depends on each individual. Some people swear by Allegra, while others love Xyzal. Its really a matter of trial and error, based on how effective the medicine is for you and what kind of side effects you experience. Your healthcare provider can help you select an antihistamine to try.
There Are Other Fixes That Actually Work
Antihistamines dont get to the core of whats really affecting your sleep. Underlying issues that are the likely culprits include sleep apnea, anxiety, depression or other mental health issues, Dimitriu said.
Lifestyle habits like consuming too much caffeine late in the day or scrolling on your phone before you go to bed can also mess with your sleep.
If your sleep problems persist beyond two weeks, at most, evaluation by a doctor is a good idea.
Another thing that can help is adding more options to your sleep hygiene repertoire so that youre not relying solely on one way of nodding off when the going gets tough.
Non-medical options are chiefly centered on sleep hygiene, Dimitriu said. Focus on: keeping a regular sleep and wake time to maintain your bodys sleep-wake cycle jotting down every loose end and worry so that your minds quieter before you hit the sack maintaining a bedtime routine that promotes relaxation.
Your pre-sleep routine might include cutting yourself off from emails, social media and stimulating television shows by a certain time, dimming the lights and listening to a guided meditation .
The peel is rich in magnesium, which promotes relaxation of the muscles, restoration, and sleep, Elliott said.

Read This If You Take Benadryl To Help You Sleep
Fewer things are more frustrating than an out-of-whack sleep cycle. When youre tired by day and wired by night, it can get to the point where youll try just about anything to get a solid nights sleep including taking Benadryl, a drowsiness-inducing antihistamine, whether youre experiencing allergies or not.
It turns out that popping a Benadryl to score some shuteye, even when youre allergy-free, is pretty common: According to a 2017 review published in the journal The Gerontologist, roughly 1 in 5 adults use an over-the-counter sleep aid, and Benadryl is one of the most commonly used products.
One reason people turn to Benadryl is the feeling of drowsiness that ensues, said Tania Elliott, a New York-based allergist and spokesperson for the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. The onset of action is about 20 minutes, so people feel like its really working, Elliott added.
But does taking a Benadryl really contribute to a better nights sleep and is it even safe? We asked experts to give us the breakdown.
What Should I Know About Storage And Disposal Of This Medication
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture and away from light. Use the orally disintegrating tablets immediately after you remove them from the blister package, and within 6 months after you open the outer foil pouch. Write the date that you open the foil pouch on the product label so that you will know when 6 months have passed.
It is important to keep all medication out of sight and reach of children as many containers are not child-resistant and young children can open them easily. To protect young children from poisoning, always lock safety caps and immediately place the medication in a safe location â one that is up and away and out of their sight and reach.
Unneeded medications should be disposed of in special ways to ensure that pets, children, and other people cannot consume them. However, you should not flush this medication down the toilet. Instead, the best way to dispose of your medication is through a medicine take-back program. Talk to your pharmacist or contact your local garbage/recycling department to learn about take-back programs in your community. See the FDA’s Safe Disposal of Medicines website for more information if you do not have access to a take-back program.

Equate Allergy & Sinus Relief Tablets
I purchased the Equate Allergy & Sinus Relief Tablets instead of the name brand equivalent because it was more cost effective. I like that each tablet is separate in a blister pack foil package. The box is easy to open. The tablets are easy to remove one by one from the package. I did not encounter any accidental opening of an adjacent tablet. I did find it was a little difficult to slide the remaining tablets back into the box after removing the tablets I needed. The plastic covering half the tablet was not smooth and caused it to catch on the box. The design of the packaging keeps the tablets dry. I found this product to be very easy to take with me where ever I went. The tablets are easy to swallow. The effectiveness of the tablets depended on the severity of my sinus and allergy situation. For the most part, on most days that I needed to use this medicine, It cleared up my allergy symptoms and relieved my sinus pressure.
Breathe Easier When Hay Fever Hits With Equate Allergy Relief Capsules
My vet told me to give my dog benadryl for allergies which i have done in the past. Benadryl and claritin are antihistamines used to treat allergy symptoms, such as itching, hives, runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing from hay fever and other allergies, such as allergies to molds and dust mites. Sometimes i cannot afford the name brand pills and these seem to work just as well. Compare to children’s benadryl® allergy liquid active ingredient. Equate allergy relief 25 mg diphenhydramine hcl per dose. Benadryl is an antihistamine that can be used to treat allergic reactions, relieve motion sickness, as a sleep aid, and to relieve some symptoms of parkinson’s disease. It’s much more affordable and works exactly the same. If using it for the first time i would use the benadryl brand, and then branch out into the off brand. When there is a generic drug listed the manufacturer will. I have only equate walmart brand on hand. They seem to work the same to me. Ages 6 to 11 years. The only difference is i think these may wear off a little faster.
Benadryl is also used to treat insomnia, motion sickness, and mild cases of parkinsonism. 8 fl oz dosage cup included However, while allegra also combats fatigue caused by allergies, equate allergy relief causes drowsiness. 12.5 mg/5 ml oral solution. Sedation is a common side.
I like to use these when my nose and head are stopped up when i have a cold.

Equate Allergy And Sinus
I decided to purchase Equates brand of allergy and sinus relief in comparison to Benadryl. The price was considerably lower which caught my eye and the pills are also pink like Benadryl tablets. I have pretty extreme allergies, year round with no off season so I want to try as many different products as I can to find the right one for me. I would say though that for this specific product it left me in search of something a little more. For those with less severe allergies this would probably be an ideal product nonetheless and for a reasonable pride as well.EffectivenessAs mentioned, my allergies would be classified as severe so for me personally even taking two at a time over the course of six hour periods, I was still moderately stuffed up and my sinuses were unable to fully clear.Ease of UseOne thing I did actually like about Equates allergy pills is that they’re a rather small pill, quite easy to take.
What Are The Main Differences Between Benadryl And Claritin
The biggest difference between Benadryl and Claritin is that Benadryl is likely to cause more drowsiness than Claritin. Benadryl, also known by its generic name diphenhydramine, is known as a first-generation antihistamine. This group of antihistamines are among the first drugs developed to treat allergy symptoms.
Claritin, also known by its generic name loratadine, is classified as a second-generation antihistamine. In other words, Claritin is part of a group of newer antihistamines. Second-generation antihistamines were developed to treat allergy symptoms without causing as much sleepiness as first-generation antihistamines.
Claritin is taken as a once-daily tablet while Benadryl needs to be taken multiple times throughout the day. This is because Claritin stays in the body longer than Benadryl.
